Meru Governor Kiraitu Murungi receives oxygen supply system for Meru Level 5 Hospital as he commissions the county’s first Intensive Care Unit

Governor Kiraitu Murungi has today received an ultra-modern, high capacity Medical Gas (Oxygen) Supply System for Meru Level 5 Hospital, which is expected to boost the oxygen supply to the hospital by up to six times the current capacity.

While receiving the advanced equipment, Governor Kiraitu noted that its arrival at the hospital is timely especially at this time when the country and the world is grappling with the COVID-19 pandemic, a respiratory viral illness whose treatment and management intensively requires oxygen supply.

“I have said many times that as the Governor of Meru County, my job is to work for our people and not to engage in retrogressive political rhetoric. This is what we are doing here today, to ensure our Level 5 Hospital is well equipped and prepped to deal with the threat of coronavirus,” he added.

Governor Kiraitu who was accompanied by the Deputy Governor, Hon. Titus Ntuchiu, hospital CEO Dr. James Kirimi and other leaders, also toured and inspected progress of the ongoing construction of the hospital ICU block. The ICU which will be the 11th in the country is expected to be completed in the next two weeks.

“It is great that this ICU which was commenced by my administration after failing to take off under the previous regime, has been completed in record time and will soon be ready to serve our people,” the Governor observed.
